GLAUCOMA
Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness in
the United States. It is the foremost cause of
blindness among African-Americans.
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that gradually steals
sight without warning and often without symptoms.
Vision loss is caused by damage to the optic nerve.
This nerve acts like an electric cable and is responsible
for carrying images from our eyes to the brain.
Glaucoma is either treated with medication (most often in
the form of eye drops), surgery, or in some cases, both.
While all our physicians treat glaucoma, Dr. S. Fareed Hasan,
has specialized training in the treatment of severe gluacoma.
