Dr. Walter C. Hartel received his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem and continued his residency in ophthalmology at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Hartel also completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology and orbital disease at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Hartel also sub-specializes in plastic surgery.

He currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, at Wright State University in Dayton. He is affiliated with several societies including American College of Surgeons and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Hartel has published many articles in the field of neuro-ophthalmology and is a frequent lecturer.
